Validated Value propositions
Satellite Applications Catapult wanted to prove the power of design in helping tech-centric startups accelerate to market. We were challenged to work with two early stage companies, each with promising satellite enabled technologies and early signals of market fit.
Satellite Applications Catapult is a UK government-backed innovation centre that supports the growth of the space sector by helping organisations harness satellite data and technology to solve real-world challenges and drive economic impact.
Our approach was structured around three focused design sprints. Prior to these, we worked with each startup to articulate their mission and vision, ensuring clarity on the long-term potential of their technology.
Sprint 1 centred on understanding user needs and identifying the most valuable, commercially viable use case—drawing insights from over 50 conversations with potential customers across relevant sectors.
Sprint 2 focused on product validation, using iterative build–test–learn loops to prototype, de-risk assumptions, and refine the offer.
Sprint 3 honed in on market positioning, developing pricing strategies, business models and communications to support each startup’s route to market.
The results of the programme were shared at an industry and investor showcase event, where both startups pitched their propositions to a room of potential partners, funders and adopters.
Andthen was instrumental in shaping our vision and roadmap for the future at Data Dynamics. Through a collaborative process, we felt their innovative design thinking brought new perspectives and clarity to our challenges. I wholeheartedly recommend Andthen for any organisation looking to reimagine their future with clarity and purpose

A Clear and Validated Value Proposition
Each startup emerged with a clear, compelling and validated value proposition—shaped by real user needs and tested through iterative prototyping. This proposition was captured in both an investor deck and pitch presentation, providing the teams with a powerful narrative and toolkit to secure future funding and partnerships.
A Roadmap to Build, Launch and Grow
The collaboration concluded with a tailored 3–6 month roadmap for each startup, outlining concrete next steps to build, test and launch their services. These roadmaps included MVP scoping, key partnerships to pursue, and customer acquisition plans—ensuring momentum beyond the programme and a clear path to market.
Teams Equipped with a New Mindset
Through our process, both startup teams adopted a blended mindset of futures thinking, design thinking and ventures thinking. They now have a practical toolkit of methods—from user research to worldbuilding to rapid prototyping—empowering them to continue navigating complexity, adapting to change, and growing their ventures with purpose and confidence.
After identifying user needs, we worked with both startups to uncover their riskiest assumptions and designed rapid prototypes to de-risk them. Each prototype served a specific purpose—testing language through A/B LinkedIn ads, validating trust features via Figma mockups, gauging demand with landing pages, and exploring viable pricing models. For example, one startup found a 2:1 preference for a particular framing of their offer, while another confirmed that showing data origin points improved trust in their platform. By learning what worked (and what didn’t) within hours or days—not weeks—we helped the startups move faster and with greater confidence toward the market.
